  1.     DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  3.     Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying 
  4.     it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected 
  5.     to register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request 
  6.     registration while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. 
  7.     With registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using 
  8.     the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  10.     Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the 
  11.     copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as 
  12.     stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like 
  13.     commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both 
  14.     cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the 
  15.     method of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy 
  16.     and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific 
  17.     group. For example, some authors require written permission before a 
  18.     commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  20.     Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find 
  21.     software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or 
  22.     Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because 
  23.     you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low 
  24.     also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use 
  25.     the product, you don't pay for it.

  29.     Users of CODEPRINT must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "CODEPRINT is
  30.     supplied as is.  The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, 
  31.     including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of 
  32.     fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, 
  33.     direct or conse-quential, which may result from the use of CODEPRINT."

  35.     CODEPRINT is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user
  36.     for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not 
  37.     give it away altered or as part of another system.  The essence of "user-
  38.     supported" software is to provide personal computer users with quality 
  39.     software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers 
  40.     to continue to develop new products.  If you find this program

  42.     useful and find that you are using CodePrint and continue to use CodePrint
  43.     after a reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment of 
  44.     $25.00 to Microbyte.  The $25.00 registration fee will license
  45.     one copy for use on any one  computer at any one time.  You must treat this 
  46.     software just like a book.  An example is that this software may be used by 
  47.     any number of people and may be freely moved from one computer location to 
  48.     another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one 
  49.     location while it's being used at another.  Just as a book cannot be read 
  50.     by two different persons at the same time.

  52.     Commercial users of CodePrint must register and pay for their copies of
  53.     CodePrint within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.  Site-
  54.     License arrangements may be made by contacting Microbyte.

  56.     Anyone distributing CodePrint for any kind of remuneration must first
  57.     contact Microbyte at the address below for authorization. This
  58.     authorization will be automatically granted to distributors recognized by 
  59.     the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and 
  60.     such distributors may begin offering CodePrint immediately (However North
  61.     River Software must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept 
  62.     up-to-date with the latest version of CodePrint.).

  64.     You are encouraged to pass a copy of CodePrint along to your friends for
  65.     evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that 
  66.     they can use it.  All registered users will receive a copy of the latest 
  67.     version of the CodePrint system.
